The problem is real. So is the Fix.
You have already explained the expectation. Students can tell you the rule, but the actual classroom moment keeps unraveling.
What actually happens
Choose a Fix and open a short teacher-led mini-lesson. Each one moves from modelling toward practice and reflection, with teacher notes that make the prompt usable rather than just decorative. Keep the lesson short and rehearse the real routine as soon as possible.
What the teacher does
Notice the smallest step students are missing. Teach that step, show a model, practise as a class and offer another attempt without turning a mistake into a character judgment. Classroom notes include access adaptations so every learner can participate.
