Students need one shared rule set for serves, lines, boundaries and close calls.
Teacher time disappears when the same moment has to be re-explained in real time.
A whole-class training game built for Grades 2–4 that teaches students to run Four Square fairly, safely and independently.

The hard moment arrives outside and students do not yet share one clear rule or repair language.
Teacher time disappears when the same moment has to be re-explained in real time.
The classroom version handles the structure so the teacher can supervise the room instead of operating another complicated system.
Use the projected scenarios to settle serve order, line rotation, boundary calls and disputed plays before students take the game outside.
A slow schoolyard moment unfolds and stops exactly where a call is needed.
Everyone votes; one random crew decides. A poor call shows its consequence and must be repaired.
The correct rule joins the class system and students use the same language outside.
Teacher-facing guides and support files stay here. The classroom launch remains a separate clean route.

Students often know the basic idea of Four Square. The teaching value is agreeing on the moments that normally stop play. Keep service and out rules simple enough that students can restart quickly. If the line spends more time debating than playing, the version is carrying too many rules.
Rehearse the serve, one common out and the re-entry order. Those three moments cause more stoppages than a long list of rare rules, and they are easy to show before students go outside.
Use a replay for a genuinely unclear line call. Four Square stays playable when the next serve happens faster than the argument about the last one.
The transfer goal is a court that can rotate, serve and restart without the teacher standing beside it. Keep only the rules students can actually remember and apply at recess speed.
